Finance Committee

The role of the Finance Committee is to represent “town meeting” throughout the year and more specifically to review and consider all articles of the warrant that call for appropriation / expenditure of funds. Following this review the committee makes a recommendation for action at the Annual Town Meeting or any Special Town Meeting.

All members of the Finance Committee are appointed by the Select Board for a 3 year term. Members of the Finance Committee also serve on the Triton District Communications Committee.

The Finance Committee typically meets the first Tuesday of every month to review financial issues and act on any transfer requests. All meetings are posted and open to the public in accordance with the open meeting laws.

The Town of Newbury Finance Committee welcomes engagement from residents and in July 2023 adopted a formal Public Comment Policy (see link on the left) for oral and written communications. To facilitate on-going and open dialogue, the Finance Committee will include at least one opportunity at each business meeting to hear oral communications from members of the public.

Residents may contact the Finance Committee via email financecommittee@townofnewbury.org at any time. Receipt of emails will be acknowledged by the Chair with members of the Finance Committee BCC’d to avoid any potential violations of the Open Meeting law. The Finance Committee Chair may add topics raised via email from members of the public to upcoming meeting agendas.
