What is the Council on Aging?
The Council on Aging is a social service branch of town government with the purpose of connecting with our seniors and their support networks, and offering them ways to stay engaged in our community. Our mission is to empower, enhance, and enrich the lives of our seniors. We do that by providing a variety of fun and educational programs for our seniors to participate in, offering transportation options to get them where they need to go, and connecting them with resources in the community that can help them remain in their homes.
The Council on Aging staff is guided in policy and procedure by a volunteer Council appointed by the Select Board. Funding is principally from the Town with additional grant funding from the state and at times other sources. The Friends of the Newbury Council on Aging is a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency which provides valuable financial aid for programs not covered by the Town budget. Volunteers support the staff with hours of administrative and service time. Services from the Council on Aging are free of charge and all inquiries are confidential.
