What is the Council on Aging?

The Council on Aging is a social service branch of the town government existing to help elders and their families. The all part-time Staff is guided in policy and procedure by a volunteer Board of Directors appointed by the Selectmen. Funding is principally from the Town with additional grant monies from the state and at times other sources. The Friends of the Newbury Council on Aging is a private nonprofit 501©3 agency which provides valuable financial aid for programs not covered by the Town budget. Volunteers support the Staff with hours of administrative and service time. Services from the C.O.A. are free of charge and all inquiries are confidential.
