DEP seeking info on cables used in Boston Harbor dredge project

Example of Blasting Cable - yellow plastic cable
Example of Blasting Cable

MassDEP is seeking information on any sightings of yellow plastic cable observed along the coast over the past year. The cable was used in a dredge/blasting project conducted by the US Army Corps of Engineers in Boston Harbor, and is being investigated. MassDEP is asking all Massachusetts coastal communities to keep an eye out for this debris, and to report it if you see any - note the specific location and grab some photos if you're able to! Please see the attached photo for an example of what this cable looks like. It is a yellow plastic wrapped wire, the wire and casing are similar in appearance to cable wires found in your home.

If you have any reports of this plastic debris washed up on local shores, please contact the Conservation Agent to report it. If possible, please include specific locations and photographs. Please also include your name and contact information in your reports so we can contact you if additional information is needed.

You can provide reports to the Conservation Office by emailing them to conscom@townofnewbury.org. You can also call the Agent to discuss a report (978-465-0862, extension 310) or stop by the office located at 12 Kent Way, Suite 101, Byfield, MA 01922.
