Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Listening Session scheduled for June 18th

On June 18, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Hearing Room at the Newbury Municipal Offices, 12 Kent Way, Byfield, Newbury’s Municipal Vulnerability Task Force will conduct a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Public Listening Session to discuss the Town’s MVP planning process and present the findings from an MVP planning workshop that was held on May 1, 2018, with Town officials, emergency response staff, and other stakeholders.

In 2017 the Town of Newbury received a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Program Planning Grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs to help in the Town’s efforts to prepare for climate change and build resilience by identifying key climate-related hazards, vulnerabilities, and strengths and to prioritize next steps to address climate change impacts.  Through the MVP grant, with the assistance of the Town’s MVP-certified provider, the Horsley Witten Group, the Town has completed a vulnerability assessment workshop and developed recommended actions that the community of Newbury can take to increase community resilience in the face of anticipated climate change impacts.  The listening session will provide an opportunity for interested residents and others to learn about the workshop and the recommendations that emerged, and to provide feedback.
