Wreaths Across America - A Note from the Newbury Grave's Officer

October 13, 2016

My name is Donald Jarvis and I place all the flags on our Veteran graves in Newbury for Memorial Day. I am pleased to share that I have embraced expanding my role.

In 2015, I started a new tradition in town by teaming up with Wreaths Across America and soliciting wreath sponsorship for our veteran graves in town. When I started the project last year my goal was to 50 wreaths sponsored; I ended with a successful number of 150 wreaths. This year I have set a challenging goal of 200. My long term goal is achieve wreath sponsorship for the over 700 Veteran graves in Newbury!

We want to crush last year's numbers and are making every additional effort to do so! We have partnered  with our locally owned and operated Domino's Pizza in Newburyport , who will place flyers about the wreath project on their pizza boxes (about 500-600 pizza boxes a week). We are grateful for this partnership and to have a great community oriented company like, Domino's Pizza supporting us.

Wreaths can be sponsored online by credit or check, or I can provide you a form can be provided for those who may not have access or the ability to access the internet. Checks must written out to 'Wreaths Across America' and mailed back to me in a timely manner so the order can be placed. Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit, 501c3, so everything is tax-deductible for the buyer.

A ceremony will be held on December 17th in the afternoon before the wreaths are placed. This ceremony is sponsored by Dunkin Donuts, and there will be free coffee, muffins, and Donuts for all volunteers to enjoy.

Details around the ceremony are still being discussed, including having the Coast Guard Honor Guard present, and ceremony location. At the ceremony volunteers who have signed up to place wreaths will be present; following the ceremony all the wreaths that were sponsored will be placed on our veteran graves.

In addition to having wreaths placed on our veteran graves, a single wreath will be tossed into the Parker River in Honor of all of those Lost at Sea. This will served as our way of paying tribute to them, their service, and their sacrifice.

We hope you will consider supporting and spreading the word about our mission with your friends, family and neighbors.  One doesn’t need to live in Byfield, Newbury or Plum Island to sponsor a wreath for a Veteran Grave in Newbury.  Further, wreaths can be sponsored through us for a veteran outside of our town; however, those wreaths must be picked up at the ceremony on December 17th and you would have responsibility of placing your wreaths.

Here is our order form, however we strongly encourage wreaths be sponsored online through our page on 'Wreaths Across America'. There will be local groups in community who have order forms, and sponsoring a wreath through them, using their ordering form, will fundraise for that certain group. This is a great community event to not only serve our veteran community, but any local community group that wish to support our mission.

You can stay connected with our mission by following us on Facebook

Wreaths can be sponsored online through this link

For questions, or if you know of/own a local business, know of an organization who would benefit from supporting  our mission, please contact us via email and will be more than happy to assist; please email NewburyWreaths@gmail.com

Thank you, v/r,
Donald R. Jarvis
