The Newbury C.O.A. Volunteer Program counts over 80 volunteers who donate more than 100 hours of service every week. Starting with the Receptionists who cover our telephones for 30 hours a week, to the Meals on Wheels Drivers adding at least 10, to the occasional special event helper, the time covered by the volunteers enables a lot of work to be done by a very small Town Department.
These volunteers make significant contributions in achieving the C.O.A.’s mission by giving their time, energy, and expertise to help provide service to Newbury elders. Volunteers serve as ambassadors in the local community and their participation is valued.
The C.O.A. has a Volunteer Manual and complete job descriptions for each program. In addition, we are always willing to hear of new ideas and additional possibilities. A Criminal Offenders Record Information check is required by law of all individuals who work with the elderly.
In addition to the programs listed below, Newbury supports a Real Estate Tax Credit for Seniors program that enables qualified individuals to “volunteer” 94 hours a year in a Town Department in exchange for a $750 real estate tax credit. The job descriptions for these positions are written by the department head who is also responsible for the hiring.
