Medical Transportation
N.E.E.T. (Northern Essex Elder Transport) is a regionally based volunteer medical transportation program for elders providing curbside to curbside service. A rider must be self ambulatory and while walkers are acceptable, wheelchairs are not unless the client has a companion who can handle the chair and the transfers. Those wishing a ride are requested to call the C.O.A. Office at least two days prior (and earlier for Boston transportation). Mileage is reimbursed to the driver at a rate of
$.40/mile and donations to equal that are requested. All scheduling is done through the C.O.A. Office.
Wheelchair Transportation is available in the C.O.A. Van on Wednesday afternoons by appointment. Riders must bring a companion to assist. The Van Driver handles the lift. Donations are appreciated.
C.O.A. Van
(The C.O.A. Van is shared with neighboring Rowley. Currently Newbury has it on Mondays, Wednesdays, and alternate Fridays.)
Wednesday Morning Grocery Shopping and Errands. Pick-ups begin at 9:00 to go to local stores. Call the C.O.A. Office by Tuesday to reserve a seat. All riders must be self ambulatory. Helpers for the visually impaired welcomed. $2 donation is requested.
Recreational/education trips are held on a Monday or Friday each month to a wide variety of places always detailed in the monthly Newsletter. Cost varies.
Ladies Luncheon. Once a month on a Friday this van trip goes to a favorite restaurant for lunch. Often a scenic ride or brief shopping stop is included. $5 donation requested plus the cost of lunch.
Other Options
On occasion the C.O.A. rents a larger vehicle for trips at a greater distance.
Some of the private agencies in the area have designated drivers who carry the necessary insurance to do transporting. Call the C.O.A. Office for more information.
